Freya's First Birthday

We celebrated Freya's first birthday a day early because I have to leave tomorrow morning for a trip. The first-year tradition is for the baby to have first dips on the cake. It's time for chocolate and a mess. At first, Freya did not know what to do. Maybe she was concerned we didn't want her to mess with it, but after she took a couple dainty jabs at the cake, she got in the spirit of things and dug in. Freya loves her new doll, which she can take into the tub with her.

Kids Love Veggie Heaven

Freya and Leo really liked their meals at Veggie Heaven today. Well, Freya enjoyed nibbling on a couple broccoli stalks, but Leo really chowed down.

Which Vegan Milk for Santa?

Anita just asked Leo whether we should give Santa hemp milk or soy milk. (He is a hemp milk addict, by the way.) He said, with an affirmative nod of the head, "Soy milk!" Can't share the good stuff with Santa. Haha.

The thing that bothers me about the discussion about what to eat is the automatic assumption that healthier foods will be awful, and richer foods will be that much more satisfying. You can eat a diet rich in plant foods and be more satisfied. You just need to learn to think differently and stop letting your diet get in the way of your life. If you think killing and eating a pig is somehow more manly, go for it, but when you are dying of heart disease, and I'm crying at your bedside, don't look at me and say you were more of a man than me. I'll still be around for my wife and son.
